Seventeen self-care tips

It’s the Christmas comedown, winter blues, that time of the year when you feel generally sorry for yourself, and you need a bit of TLC.

Taking time to look after yourself and recharge is super-important for nannies. You can’t nurture your charges and be infinitely patient if you’re feeling down in the dumps. Try a few of these to put a spring in your step and show yourself some love.

1. Put on fluffy socks and make a cup of hot chocolate to warm you up

2. Watch a feel-good movie, with popcorn and/or ice cream

3. Have a long bath with a sparkly bath bomb or divinely scented bath oil

4. Get a new haircut

5. Paint your nails a bright colour

6. Redecorate, or change the look of your room by getting some new bedlinen

7. Call a friend you haven’t talked to for ages and catch up

8. Get an adult colouring book and some pencils or pens

9. Give yourself a luxurious foot treatment and pedicure – get a headstart for sandals in summer

10. Try mindfulness – you can download the Headspace app for your phone

11. Eat more greens (seriously, it will make you feel tons better)

12. Volunteer for a community project – doing good for others will make you feel good too

13. Vent, and then delete it or burn the paper you’ve written on to get rid of all the negative energy

14. Book that appointment with the dentist or the doctor you’ve been putting off, including your smear

15. Say NO to things you don’t want to do, and YES to what makes you happy

16. Sing, clinically proven to be good for you

17. Sleep – after all we’re designed to sleep more in winter, so switch off your phone and get an early night!
