In a survey of UK parents 82% said they would pay higher salaries for a qualified nanny. Over 90% believed Paediatric First Aid to be an essential certification for nannies to hold.
Nannyjob recommends Little Ones Training & Education for childcare courses. Their courses are tailored to the nanny industry. They are affordable and offer up to Level 4 OCN certification.
Why should a nanny be qualified?
At Nannyjob we believe a nanny's job is a vocation, and like all vocations be that teacher, lawyer or carpenter, those who are professionals in their industry are qualified.
Through formal education a nanny will learn about up to date methods of caring for and raising the children in their care. You will learn to safeguard, provide a safe sleeping environment, understand the milestones a child should reach at certain ages in their early years.
Safeguarding: Why I am responsible for protecting a child as a nanny
A significant concern in our modern age is child safeguarding. As one of the child's primary caregivers, your role as a nanny is to protect that child from harm, abuse and neglect. Could you live with yourself knowing you let harm befall a child?
Safeguarding includes protection from harm in a first aid capacity. Should a child begin to choke under your watch could you save their life?
Safeguarding is aiding a child who is being bullied, noticing the signs, intervening before deep psychological damage is done, and intervening in the correct way so not further damage is done.
Would you recognise the signs a of child being abused, bullied physically or emotionally? The damage such abuse incurs is life long and at times life threatening.
What nanny courses are available?
Paediatric First Aid for Nannies
Nannyjob recommends all nannies hold Paediatric First Aid certification. The course must be Ofsted compliant and the training provider registered with the First Aid Industry Body.
Following the tragic deaths of several children under the age of 5 in a nursery settle, it is now a legal requirement for all early years workers in the UK.
Make sure you can save a child who you are responsible for in an emergency. The ambulance cannot arrive in time to save a choking child.
Or more accurately Postnatal and infant care (PAIC) training, focuses on the care of mother and baby during those precious first weeks following birth. A PAIC Practitioner understands 4 unique sleep training methods, understands how to support a mother through her struggles of breast or bottle feeding.
PAIC Practitioner is trained to nurture a mother and her infant, to aid them in bonding and feeding (be that breast or bottle).
Early Years Foundation Stage for Ofsted Registration
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets standards for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old. All schools and Ofsted-registered early years providers must follow the EYFS, including Nannies childminders, preschools, nurseries and school reception classes.
If you would like to register with Ofsted or gain an in depth understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage Frame-work Nannyjob recommends Little Ones Early Years Care Education Course which is compliant with Ofsted regulations for registration as a nanny or childminder.
