About this child: Twelve-year-old D is full of joy—he loves laughter and is tickled pink by cartoons and bouncing on trampolines. He is fascinated by music, textures, buses, trains, and exploring the world around him. He's highly cooperative, autistic and enjoys routine. He has a severe learning disability and attends a specialist school. He is non-speaking and expresses himself with the Clicker Communicator AAC iPad app. With prompting, he gets dressed, washes his hands, and uses the toilet. He has a restrictive diet, so all his meals are prepared at home.
Overview of role: Your role will include school pickups and outings. You’ll help D extend his AAC use, engage in new experiences and be more independent. After school, you'll head to yoga, gymnastics,
swimming, or music lessons. Once home, you'll support him with his chores and evening routine.
If you would like, an additional 6 hours can be provided for bulk cooking one day each week while D is at school, and 4 hours of babysitting.
During holidays, expect more adventures—music, nature trips, galleries, trampolining and seaside staycations.
Who this job would suit: If you're organised, proactive, buoyant and keen to explore the world through an autistic child’s eye, this role is perfect for you!
What’s great about this job: This is a terrific opportunity to grow your skills while making a meaningful difference. His family,
school and therapists will support your learning with tailored training.
