Mothers Help
A London-based family is seeking a warm, experienced junior nanny / au pair plus to join them on a live-in basis for a minimum of six months, ideally starting in June 2026 (with flexibility to wait until September for the right candidate).
The household is made up of two parents and three young children – a baby boy of nine months, a three-year-old girl and a six-year-old girl – plus a much-loved family dog. The mum is at home full time and is the children's main carer, while dad travels frequently for work. The mum is looking for a reliable, proactive extra pair of hands who can work alongside her, rather than taking sole charge. The eldest is at school just a short walk from home, and the middle daughter attends nursery (currently mornings, soon moving to three full days). The baby is breastfed and stays with mum most of the time, so the focus of the role is on supporting the family's daily rhythm rather than taking primary care of the youngest.
The role is built around 30–35 flexible hours per week, with a typical day beginning at 7:30am to help with the busiest part of the morning – getting everyone fed, dressed and out of the house – followed by support around nursery pick-up and afternoon activities, finishing by 7:30pm. Two evenings of babysitting are also included each week. Duties involve helping with the daily routine, light meal prep (not heavy cooking), joining the family on day trips and outings, and engaging the older two with crafts, arts, ballet, Lego, swimming, soft play and similar activities. The previous au pair was particularly loved for her creativity with crafts and origami, so a candidate with a creative streak would be welcomed.
Driving is not required, as the family lives in a well-connected area within easy walking distance of school, nursery, shops and a train station.
The ideal candidate is a slightly more mature applicant with solid prior childcare experience – particularly with one-year-olds and preschoolers/primary age. The family is looking for someone bubbly, energetic, patient and self-motivated, who can spot what needs doing and get on with it. Past hires have come from a professional childcare background, and a candidate with relevant qualifications will be especially welcome. French speakers are also welcome, though English is the home language.
Accommodation is generous: the candidate will have her own private bedroom at the end of the hall in a spacious six-bedroom home, furnished with a king-size bed, closet space and a TV. The bathroom is shared with the children. The home also has a private gym and garden.
A note on dietary requirements: the eldest child and mum are both coeliac/gluten-free, so the family kitchen is run gluten-free. The au pair is welcome to eat gluten-containing food and will have a designated toaster for personal use; previous candidates have happily kept their own pasta and bread to the side.
Previous NZ au pairs can be contacted.
The family also have a dog.
