About the child/role: This role is to support a warm and busy family of four with two children, primarily focusing on a bright, cheeky, and charming B4, with Down Syndrome. He benefits from consistent repetition, visual modelling, clear boundaries, and lots of praise and encouragement to help him learn and develop new skills. Although learning can sometimes take him a little longer, he is full of potential and determination, and the joy and pride he shows when achieving something new is incredibly rewarding. B4 enjoys colouring, reading books, playing with his sister and cousins, and absolutely adores Bluey. He also loves swimming, exploring outside, music, and investigating the world around him with curiosity and enthusiasm. The family is looking for someone compassionate, patient, and consistent who genuinely wants to make a positive and lasting difference during this important stage of his development.
B4 is currently in the early stages of walking and is highly motivated to improve his mobility. He can stand independently for short periods, take a few tentative steps, and walk short distances using a walking frame. He receives weekly physiotherapy and weekly speech and language therapy, and the family actively implement recommendations and strategies provided by therapists within everyday routines. They also use Makaton, visual prompts, and specific Down Syndrome learning strategies to encourage communication, understanding, independence, and engagement. The role may involve supporting and reinforcing these approaches through structured play, communication activities, mobility exercises, toileting support, and learning opportunities within the home and community. The family are also beginning a toilet training programme specifically designed for children with Down Syndrome in preparation for B4 starting Reception in 2027.
The family are passionate about ensuring he has access to meaningful mainstream opportunities and are preparing him for transition into a mainstream primary school in September 2027. Due to challenges accessing appropriate educational support within his current nursery placement, they are seeking a Sennie who can provide focused, nurturing support to help develop B4’s independence, confidence, communication, and readiness for school. The ideal candidate will be willing to learn, open to guidance and collaboration, and committed to recognising B4’s abilities and potential.
The family is eager to find the right candidate who is keen to work with children, open minded and willing to learn. This role is very much a partnership approach, and the family are willing to provide ongoing guidance, resources, and support to help the Sennie develop their understanding, confidence, and knowledge whilst working alongside B4 and his wider support team.
