A lovely family is looking for a calm, capable, and compassionate Mother’s Help to support mum and her seven-year-old son, who has ADHD, autism, sensory needs, attachment-related challenges, and mild learning disabilities.
This role would suit someone nurturing, emotionally resilient, and naturally proactive — somebody who understands that every day may look a little different and is happy to step in wherever support is needed, whether that’s helping with the child, assisting around the home, or simply being an extra pair of hands for mum.
The family is looking for someone who can help the child gradually become comfortable with another trusted adult being present in the home and build a positive, consistent relationship with him over time.
The Role
Duties may include:
Supporting mum with day-to-day family life
Assisting with the care and supervision of a seven-year-old boy
Helping create a calm, structured, and supportive environment
Supporting emotional regulation and transitions throughout the day
Assisting with household tasks as needed, including tidying, organisation, light household help, and general support
Providing companionship and reassurance to both mum and child
Encouraging positive engagement, routine, and independence
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal person will:
Have experience supporting children with SEN, particularly ADHD and autism
Have a good understanding of sensory needs, attachment challenges, and behavioural regulation
Be patient, calm, and emotionally resilient
Be comfortable with boundaries being tested and able to remain consistent without taking behaviours personally
Be confident in supporting a child who may initially struggle with another adult being present
Be flexible, proactive, and happy to adapt to the family’s needs on the day
Have a warm, grounded, and supportive nature
Personality & Approach
This role is best suited to someone who is:
Gentle but confident
Consistent and dependable
Non-judgmental and understanding
Happy working closely alongside mum as part of a team
Able to bring a calm energy into the home
Previous SEN, childcare, teaching assistant, support worker, nanny, or mother’s help experience would be highly valued.
