About the child/role: This role involves supporting a father, who has a brain injury and upper and lower limb amputations, to care for and engage with his 2.5-year-old daughter during contact time. Dad has his own support worker, so the Sennie is not required to provide care for him directly, but will play a key role in supporting him to build confidence and independence in his parenting. The Sennie will accompany Dad and his support worker to collect his daughter from her mother’s home in Chesterfield, travelling in the car and providing childcare support throughout. The Sennie will then support the return journey and handover at the end of contact. This travel and transition support forms an important part of the role.
G2 is a happy and active toddler who enjoys iPad time, colouring and drawing, as well as physical play. G2 is currently using only a few words and would benefit from support with speech, language and communication development. While G2 does not have a formal diagnosis, there are some traits consistent with autism, and she would benefit from a calm, structured and responsive approach that supports her communication, engagement and emotional development.
The Sennie will support all aspects of her care during contact, including feeding and general supervision, while also encouraging G2 independence in age-appropriate ways. A key part of the role is modelling positive interactions and supporting Dad to understand developmental milestones, communication strategies and ways to engage his daughter through play and everyday routines.
The ideal candidate will be an empathetic and patient individual who can balance hands-on childcare with gentle guidance and support for Dad. The role focuses on creating a nurturing, structured and enjoyable experience for G2, while empowering Dad to build confidence in his parenting and strengthen his relationship with his daughter.
