Job Summary
A private family based in Herefordshire is seeking a proactive and experienced live-in Weekend Housekeeper/Cook to support their countryside home.

The role focuses on preparing the household for weekend living, maintaining exceptional housekeeping standards, and providing relaxed, family-style cooking. The household includes three young children and a friendly dog, with regular weekend guests staying across the estate.

This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone intuitive, organised, and confident working in a busy family environment. Some experience with children is essential.

Job Specification
Housekeeping Duties:
• General cleaning and upkeep across multiple properties on the estate
• Preparing and resetting guest bedrooms for weekend stays
• Laundry, ironing, and overall household organisation
• Maintaining a clean, tidy, and welcoming home environment

Cooking Duties:
• Preparing simple, family-style meals
• Confidently following recipes (e.g. classic dishes such as lasagne)
• Awareness of dietary requirements (no onions)
• Preparing breakfasts and light meals as required

Household Support:
• Stocking the house ahead of weekends (especially Fridays)
• Grocery shopping and running errands
• Clearing and maintaining kitchen areas
• Supporting the smooth running of the household during busy periods

Additional Duties:
• Babysitting (additional hours compensated)
• Caring for horses, including hands-on involvement (additional hours compensated)
• Assisting during busier seasonal periods (e.g. winter/shoot season)


Candidate Specification:

• Proven experience in a similar Housekeeper/Cook role within a private household
• Confident home cook with the ability to follow recipes
• Some childcare experience essential
• Proactive, intuitive, and able to “read the room”
• Comfortable working in a busy household with children and guests
• Flexible, adaptable, and hands-on approach
• Positive attitude and willingness to assist wherever needed
• Pet-friendly
• Open to candidates who are semi-retired, provided they are active and capable


Accommodation:

A private two-bedroom cottage with two bathrooms is provided on a full-time basis (not limited to working days).

Utilities such as electricity and heating are included. Internet and TV licence costs are to be covered by the candidate.

Partners may be considered for the right candidate, subject to appropriate checks (DBS and character references).
