About the role/child: B5 is a bright, enthusiastic and boisterous five-year-old boy who lives with his parents in Highbury, North London. He is sociable, curious and loves learning, with a particular passion for transport, especially trains and buses. He enjoys exploring new places such as parks, museums and shops, and thrives when engaged in imaginative, role-play activities where he can fully immerse himself. B5 is fully verbal and does not present with specific learning difficulties; however, he is mildly autistic, with key challenges in emotional regulation and social communication, particularly when interacting with peers or when situations do not unfold as he expects. He can also be sensitive to unexpected loud noises, although he enjoys predictable mechanical sounds such as ticket barriers and train doors.
B5 will be out of school for the summer term of 2026, and the family is seeking a Sennie to provide both care and structured home learning during this period. The role will involve delivering a balanced and engaging daily routine, including a core period of learning from morning through to mid-afternoon, alongside enriching activities in the community. The learning programme should broadly reflect Reception-level expectations, supporting progress in phonics, early writing, maths, and understanding of the world, while being adapted to B5’s interests and learning style. The family welcomes a collaborative approach, with the Sennies worker contributing ideas and structure to the learning plan.
B5 benefits from a predictable routine with clear visual or verbal signposting of what is happening now and next, which helps him feel secure and regulated. At the same time, he is capable of developing flexibility with the right support. A key part of the role will be helping him build emotional regulation skills, supporting him through moments of frustration or dysregulation using calm, consistent and empathetic approaches. Developing his social communication skills will also be a priority, particularly in relation to turn-taking, shared play, and understanding social cues in a supportive and low-pressure way.
The family is warm, easy-going and actively involved in supporting B5’s development. He currently receives input from a Speech and Language Therapist to support social communication, and is beginning work with an Occupational Therapist to support regulation and sensory processing. His school SENCO is also involved in providing additional support. The Sennies worker will play an important role in reinforcing these therapeutic approaches within the home and community, using play-based and interest-led strategies to support progress.
