About the role and children: SENNIES is excited to support a single-parent family looking for an experienced, energetic, and compassionate Sennie to predominantly support the eldest son, (B8), who has profound autism (level 3), ADHD, and is non-verbal. The ideal candidate will be patient, physically fast and alert, confident driving and taking B8 out, and able to remain calm under pressure. Experience with autism and SEN is essential.

B8 is an energetic and affectionate eight-year-old with profound autism and ADHD who requires one-to-one support. He is very active, loves climbing, trampolining, going to the shop, being outdoors, and using his iPad. B8 has no awareness of danger and can suddenly run off into unsafe places, so constant vigilance and a physically confident carer are essential. His behaviours can be unpredictable, and he finds waiting or not getting what he wants particularly challenging. Supporting his regulation and helping him develop more patience are key priorities. B8 is non-verbal and currently learning to use an AAC device, which is central to his communication both at home and at school, where he also receives occupational therapy, speech therapy, and behavioural support. A Sennie can help him build his communication skills, reinforce strategies used in school, and provide a safe, structured environment where he can thrive. By combining safety, consistency, and positive behavioural approaches, the right person will support B8’s development while giving him the stability and encouragement he needs day to day.

B5 is a calm and affectionate five-year-old with level 2 autism. He is verbal but mainly speaks in echolalia, and while he can make requests and follow instructions, his communication and comprehension are still developing. B5 is cautious and timid, preferring predictable, low-risk play, and enjoys imaginative activities with cars, planes, rockets, and dinosaurs, as well as swimming and scootering. He rarely has meltdowns, which are brief and mild. While the role will focus on supporting B8, the Sennie will occasionally support B5 by providing reassurance, encouraging confidence in new or challenging activities, and helping develop his communication, social skills, and independence. Through patient, consistent, and nurturing guidance, the Sennie will help B5 feel secure, engaged, and supported in his daily activities.
