Governess-Governor
The family is seeking an experienced governor/governess to support their 18-year-old son, throughout the final stretch of his A-Levels. The boy attends a top independent school and is working towards A* predictions in Biology and Chemistry, but he is currently falling short of the standard required. The successful candidate will provide targeted academic support, structure, and accountability to help him close the gap and perform at his highest level.
Primary Responsibilities
- One-to-one academic support in A-Level Biology and Chemistry
- Clarifying difficult concepts, refining exam technique, and strengthening subject knowledge
- Creating weekly revision plans, study schedules, and realistic milestones
- Building effective organisation systems for deadlines, notes, and past papers
- Monitoring school portals to stay on top of homework, assessments, and coursework
- Helping the boy improve motivation, consistency, and resilience—not just results
- Liaising with teachers, tutors, and parents where necessary to maintain alignment
- Preparing structured holiday programmes before mocks and summer exams
- Providing guidance on independent study habits to ensure long-term independence
Candidate Requirements
- Strong academic background in A-Level (or higher) Biology and Chemistry
(ideal: Russell Group graduate, PGCE, or equivalent teaching experience)
- Proven success supporting students aiming for top grades at competitive schools
- Ability to simplify complex material without spoon-feeding
- Highly organised with a no-nonsense approach to deadlines and follow-through
- Confident setting expectations and holding an 18-year-old accountable
- Tech-literate and comfortable managing school platforms and digital resources
- Professional, discreet, and able to build trust quickly

- Hours to be agreed based on availability and school schedule

Start date ASAP
Salary £50,000-£65,000 per annum (flexible for excellent candidate)
Hours Term term - Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs/Sat 4-9pm (20 hrs, 4 days a week). Holiday - Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri 10am-3pm (20 hrs, 4 days a week).
Qualifications required Degree in teaching science or a science-related degere
