Nanny/Au Pair/Mother’s Help job in North Oxford with private accommodation and travel opportunities:
Oxford-based family are seeking a female, bilingual French/English, to help with the upbringing of their children.
This is a live-in position with private accommodation provided adjacent to, but separate from, the family home in North Oxford, very near a beautiful park.
Our nanny will work closely with the stay-at-home Mother to share the day-to-day jobs involved in child-rearing.
There are four children in the household. The older children (ages 9 and 7) are with the family 40% of the time and otherwise live with their mother. The family’s 4-year-old starts school this September (2023) and their 1-year-old will start nursery (3 days per week) in September 2024.
The family seeks someone who is interested in working with the family for a few years, in which time they will gain valuable experience in looking after young children of different ages.
The family lives in North Oxford during term time but out of term time will travel to family homes in Verbier (Switzerland) and Jersey (Channel Islands) as well as go on the occasional family holiday. The nanny will accompany the family on these trips and will always be provided with private living quarters separate from the family home (either on-site with private entrance or within a 10 minute walk). The family have additional household help at their homes (cleaners/housekeepers/gardeners/chalet host).
Responsibilities include:
• Assisting the Mother in full-range of child-rearing duties;
• Nappy changing, bathing and potty-training;
• Helping children get ready for school and occasionally doing the school drop-off/collection;
• Helping children complete homework;
• Speaking French to the children (exclusively French to the youngest);
• Organising games/activities for the children;
• Helping to make breakfast and assisting at mealtimes;
• Occasionally helping to make other meals for the children;
• Keeping tidy and well-organised the children’s bedrooms and play areas;
• Helping to manage the children’s wardrobes (particularly of the older children who come and go);
• Taking the youngest to playgroup;
• Occasional evening babysitting.
The nanny’s working week will average 45 hours. The family seeks a candidate who has a flexible attitude to working hours and is willing to work weekends. The family will give their nanny 2 days off per week and at least twice a month these will be consecutive days off. Weekly schedules are planned 3 months in advance. The nature of the work is that some weeks are very busy when all 4 children are on holiday and at home, and some weeks very quiet when children are in school and only the 1 year old is home.
Benefits:
• Compensation will be discussed with the employers at interview stage
• Private accommodation in wonderful locations provided
• 30 days holiday annually
• Access to cars
• Opportunity to enjoy travelling - including skiing holidays in Switzerland and beach holidays in the Channel Islands
Experience and referees:
• The family is looking for someone who has some experience working with children (an au pair role, for example).
• Ideally the successful candidate is able to drive.
• 2-3 references are essential to the employers.
• Candidate should provide completed DBS check.
