{"id":2600,"date":"2020-02-11T10:51:33","date_gmt":"2020-02-11T10:51:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nannyjob.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2600"},"modified":"2020-02-11T10:51:33","modified_gmt":"2020-02-11T10:51:33","slug":"unpaid-parental-leave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nannyjob.co.uk\/blog\/unpaid-parental-leave\/","title":{"rendered":"Unpaid Parental Leave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Eligible employees can take unpaid parental leave to look after their child\u2019s welfare, for example,<\/p>\n<p>spend more time with their children<\/p>\n<p>look at new schools<\/p>\n<p>settle children into new childcare arrangements<\/p>\n<p>spend more time with family, such as visiting grandparents<\/p>\n<p>Their employment rights are protected during parental leave.<\/p>\n<p>Parental leave is unpaid. Employees are entitled to 18 weeks leave for each child and adopted child, up to their 18<sup>th<\/sup> birthday.<\/p>\n<p>The limit on how much parental leave each parent can take in a year is 4 weeks for each child (unless the employer agrees otherwise).<\/p>\n<p>You must take parental leave as whole weeks (eg 1 week or 2 weeks) rather than individual days, unless your employer agrees otherwise or if your child is disabled. You don\u2019t have to take all the leave at once.<\/p>\n<p>Employees qualify if all of these apply:<\/p>\n<p>they\u2019ve been in the company for more than a year<\/p>\n<p>they\u2019re named on the child\u2019s birth or adoption certificate or they have or expect to have parental responsibility<\/p>\n<p>Employees must give 21 days\u2019 notice before their intended start date. If they or their partner are having a baby or adopting, it\u2019s 21 days before the week the baby or child is expected.<\/p>\n<p>Employees must confirm the start and end dates in their notice.
