{"id":2554,"date":"2019-12-06T10:00:47","date_gmt":"2019-12-06T10:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.nannyjob.co.uk\/blog\/?p=2554"},"modified":"2019-12-06T10:00:47","modified_gmt":"2019-12-06T10:00:47","slug":"nanny-or-au-pair","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.nannyjob.co.uk\/blog\/nanny-or-au-pair\/","title":{"rendered":"Nanny or Au Pair"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><u>Age and Cultural exchange programme<\/u><\/p>\n<p>An au pair is between the ages of 18-30 and comes to the UK to learn or perfect her English in exchange for childcare.<\/p>\n<p>A nanny can be any age and does not take part in a cultural exchange programme.<\/p>\n<p><u>Wage and working hours<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Au pairs can only work on average 30 hours a week and on top of their accommodation will normally get what is classed as \u2018pocket money\u2019. \u2018Pocket money\u2019 on average is \u00a3100.00 per week and as long as they earn less than \u00a3118.00 per week and have no other income this does not need to be declared to HMRC.<\/p>\n<p>A nanny receives a wage in line with the national minimum wage.<\/p>\n<p><u>Language courses<\/u><\/p>\n<p>Au pairs must have the chance to attend a language course.<\/p>\n<p>A nanny does not have to attend a language course.<\/p>\n<p><u>Employee\/family<\/u><\/p>\n<p>An au pair is seen as a temporary family member.<\/p>\n<p>A nanny is seen as an employee.<\/p>\n<p><u>Legalities<\/u><\/p>\n<p>An au pair needs a visa specific to an au pair.<\/p>\n<p>Nannies who are coming from abroad need a work visa or permit.
