If you\u2019re a parent employing a nanny, you must comply with the national minimum wage. If you don\u2019t, you could end up in an Employment Tribunal or be reported to HMRC and face a fine of up to \u00a320,000.<\/p>\n

The current hourly wage for the tax year 2018\/19 is as follows:<\/p>\n

Did you know that if you\u2019re a nanny who lives in the family home and not in separate accommodation provided by the employer, then the national minimum wage does not apply?<\/p>\n

For live-in nannies, there is a daily accommodation offset rate of \u00a37 per day or \u00a349 a week. These rates are set every April so it\u2019s important to keep up to date with any new legislation.<\/p>\n

However, if your employer has provided accommodation somewhere other than the family home, this will need to be declared as a \u2018benefit in kind\u2019 on your tax return.<\/p>\n
