Free Online Educational Apps & Games

If your child loves video games, apps and interactive activities but you’d like the focus to be more educational, we’ve put together a list of 3 fantastic apps, games and online resources to give every child the learning bug! The best part? They’re all free!

  • Khan Academy – Is a fantastic non-profit organisation dedicated to providing a free education for everyone, everywhere. Their website is completely free to access and covers a range of topics including Maths, Science & Engineering, Computing, Arts & Humanities, Economics & Finance, and much more. Their online platform allows parents to create a ‘teacher’ account so that they can assign modules/lessons to children and see their progress. The ‘lessons’ are conducted via videos and interactive games/challenges leaving children free to learn in a fun way and at their own pace.

For younger children, you can download the completely free Khan Academy Kids app to help foster a love of learning from age 2 to 6.

  • Teach Your Monster to Read – Is a completely free online game intended to make learning to read fun for children of all ages. The game is funded by the Usborne Charity Foundation and uses fun characters, colourful worlds and creative challenges to help children in the first stages of reading learn how to read in a fun, exciting way. An app is available for a small fee from most app stores.
  • CBeebies Storytime – The CBeebies Storytime app is available for free from most app stores. The app contains over 40 interactive stories to choose from aimed at preschool and early-years school children spanning various themes and topics and starring popular CBeebies characters.
