Nanny (Special needs)
We require someone with plenty of initiative and plentiful experience to help us look after our 9-year-old son.

We are looking for a live-out nanny with experience of dealing with children with special needs. Both mum and dad work full time. The hours will be roughly 7-9 mornings and 3-8 afternoons Monday to Friday.

We require conventional duties including before and after school care duties such as take to and pick up from school, take to some after school clubs, arrange play dates, help with homework such as reading, maths and instrument practice, cook a healthy meal, help with shower and bedtime. Prepare gear for the following school day, do weekly wash and ironing. Ad hoc house errands and light housework (we have a cleaner) will be asked for whilst our son is at school and a daily upkeep of the kitchen and play areas after dinner and homework duties are completed will be expected.

You should have experience of dealing with children with special needs and be able to deal with some unpredictability although this is entirely manageable if you have the right background, and more importantly, the right attitude. You should be familiar with the autistic spectrum (high functioning) and sensory issues.

For this role you will need to be extremely caring and patient. You must possess a passion to care for and educate children and provide a caring, compassionate and nurturing environment in which to promote this.

A driver would be preferred although we could potentially work around this and a non smoker is a must with a keen interest in promoting a healthy lifestyle including nutrition, exercise and emotional well being.

Our son is loving and becomes very attached to his carers, so in order to ensure continuity of routines we will only consider long-term tenure candidates who are able to offer commitment to this role for the long run.

We require the nanny to have verifiable experience of caring for children with special needs, DBS check, first aid certified, non smoker, Ofsted registered (or willing to be) and someone who is willing to work diligently to establish a rapport and connection with our son whose routines should be carefully managed and adhered to.

The type of nanny that has mixed well with our son and our family in the past has come to us from the following professional backgrounds: qualified SEN teacher, ex paediatric (or elderly care) nurse, social worker exposed to ASD children, etc. However, we will evaluate all applications individually and consider other backgrounds. All of our past nannies have consistently demonstrated a passion for caring for the disabled (although our son is fully verbal and not physically impaired) and especially for children with special needs.

Pay will be based strictly upon age and experience. We will pay your tax, national insurance, offer statutory paid holiday and provide a consistent fixed monthly salary both term time and during school holidays.

In person interviews only. Start date is beginning of January 2016 as we are prepared to wait for the right nanny.

Feel free to contact us if you think this role could be a match to your skill set and experience!

We look forward to being in touch.
